Since 28 June 2023, Korean law uses international age: 0 at birth, plus one each birthday. Year age is this year minus birth year, and the traditional Korean age is year age plus one.
As of 8 Oct 2026, someone born on 25 Dec 1990 is 35 (before their birthday), year age 36 and Korean age 37. Year age is still used by some laws, such as military service.
People born on 29 February turn a year older on 1 March in common years. The zodiac animal follows the solar year; those born in January or February before Lunar New Year are sometimes given the previous year's animal.

When do 29 February birthdays count?
On 29 Feb in leap years and on 1 Mar in common years.
Why is my zodiac different?
It uses the solar year. If you were born before Lunar New Year, the lunar zodiac is the previous year's.
