About this tool

A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds since 00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970. Inputs with 13 or more digits are treated as milliseconds (JavaScript Date.now()), shorter ones as seconds. 1700000000 is 2023-11-14 22:13:20 UTC.

Results are shown in this device's time zone, UTC and ISO 8601. Date → Timestamp converts a date in this device's time zone to seconds and milliseconds.

The current value updates every second, and the Now button fills in the current time. Old systems that store seconds in a 32-bit integer overflow on 19 January 2038 (2147483647), so later dates need 64-bit values.

FAQ

How are seconds and milliseconds told apart?

13 or more digits means milliseconds, fewer means seconds. Right now it is 10 digits in seconds and 13 in milliseconds.

Why is the time off by hours?

That is your time zone offset from UTC. Both this device's time and UTC are shown.

Do negative timestamps work?

Yes. Dates before 1970 are negative and convert normally.
