URL Encoder / Decoder

About this tool

This uses the browser's encodeURIComponent/encodeURI and decodeURIComponent/decodeURI. Non-ASCII text becomes %XX per UTF-8 byte, so "홍길동" becomes %ED%99%8D%EA%B8%B8%EB%8F%99.

Value (encodeURIComponent) is for a single query parameter and encodes & = ? / # as well. Full URL (encodeURI) is for an already-built address and keeps the structural characters : / ? & = #.

When decoding, + becomes a space, since HTML forms (application/x-www-form-urlencoded) send spaces as +. Broken % sequences are reported as errors.

FAQ

Value vs Full URL?

Value encodes & = / ? too, for safely placing text in one parameter; Full URL keeps structural characters for tidying a complete link.

Is a space %20 or +?

Encoding uses %20. Decoding turns both %20 and + into spaces.

Is my input stored?

No. It is converted in your browser only.
