BMI Calculator
About this tool
BMI is weight (kg) divided by height (m) squared. At 170 cm and 65 kg, 65 ÷ 1.7² = 22.5, which is normal.
Categories follow the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity (2022): under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–22.9 normal, 23–24.9 pre-obese, 25–29.9 class 1, 30–34.9 class 2 and 35+ class 3 obesity. These Asian cut-offs are lower than WHO's (25+ overweight) because metabolic risk appears at lower BMI.
A normal weight range for your height is also shown: 53.5–66.2 kg at 170 cm. BMI does not separate muscle from fat, so very muscular people may read high.
FAQ
What is a normal BMI?
18.5 to under 23 by Korean (Asian) standards.
Why does it differ from WHO?
Asians show higher diabetes and blood-pressure risk at the same BMI, so the cut-offs are lower.
Can children use it?
No. Under 18, BMI percentiles on growth charts are used instead.
